Hello! I’m Cat.

Editor with 10 years' experience in commercial and genre fiction at HarperCollins, Titan Books and more

About Me

I have over 10 years' experience working in-house with various publishers, most recently as commissioning editor at HarperCollins' HQ imprint.

I have up-to-date knowledge of the current publishing market and specialize in crime and thriller, fantasy, romance, contemporary fiction, horror and science fiction. The books I've edited include the Sunday Times bestselling Herc by Phoenicia Rogerson, Louise Jensen's The Intruders, Grady Hendrix's The Final Girl Support Group and Karin Nordin's Sweet Little Lies

I'd be delighted to work together and improve your book, whether you're just beginning your writing journey, or are almost ready to approach agents or to self-publish. I offer several services for whatever stage your manuscript is at, including manuscript assessments, developmental edits, line edits, and proofreads. My focus is collaboration: working together to bring out the very best in your manuscript, and providing a helping hand to support you every step of the way.

Services

Development Edit

A comprehensive edit that provides a detailed editorial letter covering broad elements of your manuscript including style, plot, structure, voice and characterisation, and tracked suggestions on the manuscript itself. These will give specific feedback on the nitty gritty of your writing, covering elements such as suggestions to improve word choice, sentence structure, dialogue, and consistency. Edits are followed by a 1-hour video call where we can discuss the editorial notes, or anything else publishing-related you choose.

Manuscript Assessment

A broad overview of your manuscript discussing elements including plot, structure, style, voice and characterisation, given in a detailed editorial letter of 6-10 pages. Edits are followed by a 1-hour video call where we can discuss the editorial notes, or anything else publishing-related you choose.

Proofread

This is the final stage of editing and is designed to make sure no stray typos get through before publication. I'd send your manuscript back with the errors marked up in track changes, along with a style sheet detailing style/spelling options used in the manuscript.

Line Edit

A line-by-line check on your manuscript covering elements such as word choice, phrasing, dialogue, consistency and pace. Edits are followed by a 1-hour video call where we can discuss the editorial notes, or anything else publishing-related you choose.

Query Package Assessment

A thorough check at your query letter and synopsis, including feedback focusing on pace and clarity. I’d also proofread the first 10,000 words of your manuscript.
